Junior Achievement BizTown Launches in Newark
Junior Achievement of Central Ohio and Newark City Schools recently celebrated the inaugural opening of Junior Achievement BizTown (JA). This innovative program is designed to provide fifth-grade students with an immersive experience in business operations and financial management within a simulated economy.
John Clem Elementary School is the first institution to participate in this program, allowing students to engage in real-world business scenarios.
David Lewis, Superintendent of Newark City Schools, expressed excitement about the program's launch, stating, "We are looking forward to the launch of JA BizTown in Newark, which will provide our students with an innovative opportunity to learn valuable life and career skills."
Meta's Role in Education
Meta has been instrumental in bringing this educational experience to life, featuring a Meta shop within JA BizTown that introduces students to data centers, technology innovation, and social media. This exposure is aimed at inspiring students to explore careers in both business and technology.
Tara Tenorio, Community Development Regional Manager for Meta, noted, "Meta is committed to the long-term vitality of Central Ohio and recognizes the importance that hands-on programs like JA BizTown have in cultivating critical skills for our community’s next generation of leaders."
Educational Impact
JA operates over one hundred local areas across the country, serving as the largest organization dedicated to inspiring and preparing young people for success. Students involved in JA BizTown complete a four-week economic curriculum before experiencing a day at BizTown, where they make critical decisions that link classroom learning with practical application.
