Connecting Education with Real Life
Junior Achievement is making strides in helping students bridge the gap between their classroom learning and the real world. By focusing on financial literacy, entrepreneurship, and career readiness, the organization is equipping young minds with essential skills for their future careers.
The High School Hero Program
In 2024, Junior Achievement introduced the High School Hero Program, which has seen great success, according to Local Director Bless Stennis. This innovative program utilizes high school students as volunteers to teach younger students in classrooms. Stennis highlights that this approach benefits everyone involved:
“The high school kids are gaining that knowledge and that experience and the little ones absolutely love the high school kids.”
Expanding Reach
Initially launched in Bryan ISD schools in the fall, the program will extend to College Station ISD schools in the spring, showcasing real-life experiences from older students as role models for younger ones. The goal is to impart important lessons in an engaging and enjoyable manner.
Learning Through Fun
Stennis emphasizes the importance of a curriculum filled with games and activities, which helps students remember key concepts, especially when it comes time to make significant financial decisions, like buying a car. The program is designed to ensure students not only have the money but also the education on how to save effectively for their goals.
