The Changing Landscape of Junior Jobs
As artificial intelligence (AI) continues to evolve, many industries are facing a significant shift. The concern is that novices and entry-level positions may vanish as AI takes over tasks previously performed by humans. This transition could have profound implications for career development and the opportunities available for learning and growth.
Learning from Experience
Reflecting on my early days as a trainee reporter, I remember the challenges of writing a daily sharemarket report. It was a daunting task for someone just starting out. However, I was fortunate enough to have an editor who guided me through the editing process, explaining the changes he made and the reasoning behind them. This mentorship was crucial for my development and provided me with the skills needed to improve.
The Need for Change
With the rise of AI, the traditional models that support the growth of novices may need to be re-evaluated. If these entry-level jobs disappear, how will future generations learn and progress in their careers? The risk is that without these foundational experiences, we may lose not only talent but also the diversity of skills that comes from different learning pathways.
